Weekend Activities

Right after school Brittany, Dawn, Riley and I went with Tim to the Paddle/Tennis club. Here the Sotogrande staff is allowed to play paddle for free every Friday. I loved it! It is so fun, it is like a combination between racquet ball and tennis. The racquet is small like a racquetball racquet, but is made of fiberglass and has holes in it. Dawn and I challenged her cooperating teacher, Lee and Jose an IT employee. We won in a really close match! =] I hope to play again next Friday. Mireille (Murray) told me that I need to have a match against Chris Charlson, the school director. I guess he is very competitive and she thinks it will be a good match. Apparently she wants to put up posters and get a crowd of staff members to watch, haha we’ll see.

Right after paddle, we went back to our house to change and then Mireille came back to the house to pick us up for the Halloween party/concert at the school. It was great! According to how many euros they made on admission there were over 1000 people there. Matt Monaghan performed and so did Annika and Riley. Annika sang a Missy Higgins song – Secret – while Riley accompanied her on the guitar. It was fun seeing staff and students at the event. Apparently there will be a couple more before we leave. I hope so.

After the party, Brittany, Annika and I went to Estapona with Mireille to go out for pizza and walk around the port. In the morning Sam, the drama teacher and Mireille’s housemate took us back to Sotogrande on her way to Algeciras with her friend Stef who was visiting from London.

A lot of people at the concert.

At the school concert.

We hung out at the house for a while and then got ready for Tim’s welcoming party. We took the 6:30 bus from Sotogrande back to Estapona and arrived at the bus station and then had to walk to their apartment. We arrived around 7:45. Tim invited about 20 people from the school and made somewhere around 15 dishes! It was insane. He had stuffed green olives (very popular here). They were stuffed with peppers or pickles. He also had other ordure’s like crackers and cream cheese and spinach dip. He also made his famous sangria. After the first round of food, he just kept bringing more out to the table. He had two different meatball dishes, tubule salad, pigs in a blanket, a meat quesadilla dish, stuffed mushrooms and more, it was all so good. For desert he had ice cream and pineapple crisp.

Sam and Mirelle's Apartment

Just the begining of the food!

After socializing at Tim’s house, we all went out together. Great time, and I met/got to talk with more of the SIS staff.

We all stayed the night at Sam and Mireille’s apartment. They have a really nice place with a lot of extra room. I think a couple of us are actually going to stay there all this week. They have four rooms and three showers and this week Sam will be gone so I know that at least Annika, Brittany and I will stay there for a few days. On Sunday morning we walked down to a small coffee house right below their apartment for breakfast. I had an “English Breakfast” which includes toast, eggs, bacon, and baked beans…interesting, but good. Then we walked along the beach. I went in up to my shorts and wish I had my swim suit so I could have gone in. The last few days, the weather has been really nice, probably 70ish. I hope it stays nice! At three o’clock we took the bus back to Sotogrande and got to work, had some school stuff to get ready for the week.
