Night In Vejer

Just got back from the weekend with Riley's friend Matt. It was pretty fun, something to do, but the weather was bad. Rain both days. We rode about 1.5 hours in our blue minibus to his house. He lives alone right now in a small town about 20,000 people called Vejer located in the southwestern part of Spain.

It was a very relaxing time. Vejer has a lot more Spanish culture than Sotogrande which is actually mostly British. Matt really likes the small cultural town, narrow cobblestone streets etc. We walked around the town a little bit and stopped in about three pubs/cafe's to get a drink/tapas. That is the thing to do here...walk around, check out different places and go in for one drink/tapa (appetizer) then go check out a different place. So from about 4-8, this is what we did. Walked around the town, got a few drinks, looked at the sites...a very different lifestyle than what I'm used to. No rush, no stress. There is nothing to do, no place to be and not a worry in the world. Weird. At one of the tapas places I tried white fish, tuna, and octopus. I was so proud of myself. They weren't too bad; especially the tuna it tasted kind of like chicken.

At about 8 we picked up Matt's bass player and drove to another town where he had a gig. Matt and his base player were playing at an Irish pub called Patrick’s! =] This is where we hung out all night until about 3 in the morning! It was a good time. Very small pub, but we got some pizza for dinner at a place nearby that kind of tasted like Dominos - so good. The pub had some Halloween decorations/masks which were fun. I brought some cards and we played while listening to Matt's music. He was pretty good, kind of like alternative rock - I thought he sounded a lot like Howie Day.

The next day we drove through a couple of small towns on the way back to Sotogrande and got out of the bus to take a look around. We stopped at a restaurant for lunch near the beach where some die hard surfers were out in the rain. We had a kind of fried rice chicken dish that was really good. Late afternoon we worked our way along the coast back to Sotogrande.

We stopped at the large supermercado called Carrefour to get some food for the week.

Today has been a work out and standards work day. The weather is a little better. First day of school tomorrow!
